THOUGHTS + COMMISSIONS

Bodies and Clay

Clay is a malleable, beautiful, tactile medium. It is the body of the earth. Drinking vessels are deeply intimate forms. We clasp them in our hands and touch them to our lips.

Over time potters have developed an anthropomorphic vocabulary for the anatomy of a pot. We talk about the foot, the shoulder, the belly, the lip. We refer to each type of clay as a clay body. We understand that clay and the forms it takes are the perfect metaphor for ourselves.

Tripods

My favorite pieces to make and sell are my clay bodies, also known as titty tripods — fat, queer, sculptural mugs that have more breasts than legs, and more legs than you or I do. Tripods are also the only pieces that I take commissions for!

These mugs are meant to be an intimate experience for your morning coffee or your evening tea. They’re meant to be a ceremonial chalice. They’re meant to hold your candles, your matches, your flowers, your seeds, your hopes and dreams.

Vessels + Bodies

Fat bodies, women’s bodies, trans bodies, queer bodies, disabled bodies, racialized bodies — we are all seen as vessels.

The dominant culture wants to fill our bodies with their ideas of us. Hegemonic christianity declares our bodies to be merely vessels for our souls. The US legal system wants to force women and trans folks to be vessels for unwanted pregnancies. Everywhere we look we are told that our bodies are not our own. That they are vessels for the use of others.

These pieces are a reclamation of our bodies as vessels for ourselves.

I want us to fill our bodies with whatever we want to fill them with. Food and comfort and love and desire and laughter and warmth and the hands and tongues of our lovers and sunshine and song and growing the next generation and everything else we can think of.

I want us to do these things on our own terms.

Want Your Own Tripod?

Would you like a sculptural representation of yourself past, present, and/or future?

Want to memorialize your chest before and after top surgery? Before and after pregnancy and childbirth? Need a cup with a representation of the chests of each member of your three-person polycule? Just think you’re hot and want to drink out of cup with your own tits on it?

If you want a commemoration of your body, I can make that for you!
